8/17/05-SB193, an effort to petition the federal government to allow tollbooths on interstates in North Carolina, is likely dead but a similar provision is included in the state budget approved in early August.
4/14/05-A bill in the Senate Finance Committee would enable tolling on Interstate 95 in the state.
SB193, sponsored by Sen. Larry Shaw, D-Fayetteville, would morph the North Carolina Bridge Authority into the North Carolina Toll Road and Bridge Authority.
A toll would be collected at the Virginia and South Carolina borders. The revenue would pay for roadwork and expansion of rural interstate highways.
