6/6/05-The House voted 73-24 in favor of a bill that would prohibit law-enforcement agencies from using photo-monitoring devices, such as red-light and speed-enforcement cameras, unless a police officer is present and witnesses the traffic violation.
HB56, sponsored by Rep. Jim Raussen, R-Springdale, has been sent to the Senate for further consideration.
The cameras snap pictures of red-light runners or speeders. A ticket is mailed to the vehicles owner, regardless of who was driving at the time. No points are added to the offender’s license and his/her insurance company is not notified.
