7/15/05-Gov. Brad Henry has signed into law a workers’ compensation reform bill. It took effect June 13. Legislators approved the bill during a special session in early June.
The new law – previously SB1 – is expected to save businesses up to $120 million a year.
Under the new rules, owner-operators and other self-employed people will be unable to renew their workers’ comp CNC cards. The issuance of the cards ceased July 1. A new affidavit program to prove a person is self-employed and therefore exempt from the work comp requirement is being drafted.
