12/30/05-A bill in the House Appropriations Committee would require a seller or lessor of a new motor vehicle sold or leased in the state, which is equipped with one or more recording devices commonly referred to as “event data recorders,” to disclose the fact in the owner’s manual for the vehicle.
HB1294, sponsored by Rep. Ted Harhai, D-Monessen, has been amended to specify vehicles only for personal use, which excludes commercial vehicles.
A motor vehicle equipped with an event data recorder must describe what information can be recorded and that data collected “can be used as evidence in legal proceedings.”
