10/19/05-A bill in the House Transportation Committee would get tough with anyone who fails to cover loads of loose material.
Sponsored by Rep. Stanley Saylor, R-Red Lion, HB1792 would require such loads as sand, gravel, dirt or wood chips to be enclosed “so as to prevent any part of the load from blowing, falling or spilling out of the vehicle.”
Violators could face fines as much as $3,000.
Saylor’s effort wouldn’t apply to bulk material applied to a highway or for winter snow or ice treatment.
