6/27/05-A bill that sought to charge someone with a felony who causes a fatal accident while driving angry has died.
HB1249, sponsored by Rep. Elvira Reyna, R-Mesquite, remained in the Senate Criminal Justice Committee when the session ended, effectively killing it for the year. It previously passed the House.
The bill would have required a judge or jury trying a case involving a deadly accident to decide whether the driver engaged in “aggressive driving.” Brandishing a weapon while driving, intentionally causing a vehicle to collide with another or scaring another driver would have classified as aggressive driving under the bill.
