5/23/05-A bill that would have reduced the width of the planned Trans-Texas Corridor project to 800 feet from 1,200 feet and require on and off ramps for every state highway and farm-to-market road intersecting it has died.
HB1273, sponsored by Rep. Lois Kolkorst, R-Brenham, remained in the House Transportation Committee at the deadline for bills to advance to the Senate, effectively killing it for the year.
The bill would have prohibited franchising of businesses along the corridor, which will run parallel to Interstate 35 from Oklahoma to Mexico by road contractors. It would also have barred “noncompetition” clauses in contracts between the state and corridor developers that would prevent government from building free public roads nearby.
In addition, the measure would have required that any toll fee increase or collection fee increase meet approval of the Transportation Commission.
