5/31/05-A bill that sought to tie the state’s fuel tax to the rate of inflation has died.
HB5, sponsored by Rep. Mike Krusee, R-Round Rock, remained in the House Ways and Means Committee past the deadline for House bills to advance to the Senate. It previously passed the panel but was sent back by the Calendars Committee.
The current rate for gasoline and diesel is 20 cents a gallon. It hasn’t changed since 1991.
The bill would have increased the tax by less than a penny a year, with revenue used to help pay for roadwork.
