6/27/05-A bill intended to ease commercial truck traffic and congestion at the U.S./Mexico border has died.
SB185, sponsored by Sen. Eddie Lucio Jr., D-Brownsville, remained in the House Calendars Committee awaiting a move to the full House when the session ended, effectively killing it for the year. It previously passed the Senate.
It sought to require the state’s Border Commerce Coordinator to investigate commercial vehicle inspections and how they can be sped up at the border.
The bill would also have helped local governments and community groups on both sides of the border work together, and would require lower-sulfur diesel fuel for commercial vehicles.
