7/25/05-Gov. Rick Perry has signed a bill into law requiring the Department of Public Safety to meet periodically with officials of Mexican border states about truck inspections and related transportation issues.
The new law, previously SB293, calls for developing plans in conjunction with the border commerce coordinator to recommend ways to expedite trade by easing delays in border crossing inspections.
The department is then responsible for updating plans biennially and submitting the updated plan to the lieutenant governor, speaker of the House of Representatives and all other members of the Legislature on or before Dec. 1 of each even-numbered year.
