2/18/05-The plug is about to be pulled on pilot programs that use cameras to catch red light runners in several Virginia localities.
The House Militia, Police and Public Safety Committee rejected several bills Feb. 18 to keep the pilot programs alive after their scheduled July 1, 2005, expiration date.
The monitoring systems are in use at selected intersections in Virginia Beach and six northern Virginia communities: Alexandria, Fairfax City, Falls Church, Vienna and Arlington and Fairfax counties. The programs were authorized in 1995.
