2/24/05-A bill that sought to enact harsher penalties for truckers caught speeding has died.
HB198, sponsored by Rep. Kurt Bucholz, R-Saratoga, remained in the House Transportation, Highways and Military Affairs Committee at the Feb. 4 deadline for bills to pass out of committee, effectively killing it for the year.
The bill would have increased from $100 to $300 the fine for trucks found traveling in excess of 5 mph over the current limit on the state’s interstates and other highways. The fine for other vehicles would have remained unchanged.
