6/1/06-A bill is likely dead that is intended to stem the flow of illegal immigrants entering the state.
Sponsored by Rep. Doug Quelland, R-Phoenix, HB2003 remains in committee as the regular session is winding down.
The bill calls for the state to spend $6 million on a road that would stretch from Douglas to Yuma to make it easier for U.S. Border Patrol agents to turn back groups before they enter the country.
The road would be a lane-and-a-half wide and would also be used to deliver medical assistance quickly to those in need. It would be closed to the public.
The bill would prohibit the state from building the road on Indian reservations, military bases, federal land and private property without the owner’s consent.
