6/26/06-A bill that would have guarded against price gouging at the fuel pump has died.
Sponsored by Rep. Phil Lopes, D-Tucson, HB2827 would have applied only in situations where the governor or president declared an emergency. For 10 days after the declared emergency, retailers or wholesalers who raised prices more than 10 percent could have been subject to investigation.
Violators would have faced up to a $2,500 fine and as much as six months in jail.
Exceptions would have applied for price increases that are passed along the supply line.

4/28/06-Rep. Phil Lopes, D-Tucson, has introduced a bill that would guard against price gouging at the fuel pump.

The bill has remained in three House committees since it was introduced in February.
