9/26/06-Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has vetoed a bill that sought to generate revenue for the state by boosting certain fees on vehicles.
Sponsored by Sen. Wes Chesbro, D-Arcata, SB1225 would have allowed county boards of supervisors to increase the annual registration surcharge from $1 to $2.
The governor said in most cases the decisions to raise fees should be made by voters, not elected officials.
A nearly identical bill – AB2681 – met the same fate.
