5/16/06-A bill that originally included a provision to delete a sunset date on an exemption from current vehicle length restrictions for truck-trailer combinations that transport agricultural products unanimously passed the Senate May 11.
The provision was removed from SB1237 on the Senate floor.

5/2/06-A bill in the Senate Transportation and Housing Committee would delete a sunset date on an exemption from current vehicle length restrictions for truck-trailer combinations that transport agricultural products.
Currently, California law prohibits any combination of vehicles coupled together, including any attachments, from exceeding 65 feet in length. Exemptions from the rule apply for 75-foot long tractors hauling two trailers as long as trailers don’t exceed 28 feet 6 inches.
The length exemption for agricultural tractor-trailer combinations is scheduled to expire Jan. 1, 2007.
Sponsored by Sen. Abel Maldonado, R-Santa Maria, SB1237 would make the exemption permanent. It would only apply to agricultural haulers who are transporting products from the field to the first point of handling and return. Each direction of transport would be restricted to 80 miles and the tractor-trailers combo couldn’t be operated on a national network route.
