6/2/06-The House State, Veterans & Military Affairs Committee rejected the bill that would have barred the use of eminent domain powers to take land for the purpose of economic development.
Sponsored by Rep. Cory Gardner, R-Yuma, HB1099 would have barred governments from taking private property other than for an explicit “public purpose,” such as constructing a bridge or road. It would also have banned governments from turning over condemned property to private developers.
