5/19/06-House Speaker Terry Spence, R-Stratford, has introduced a bill that would suspend the state’s excise tax on diesel and gasoline for June through September. The state now collects 22 cents per gallon on diesel and 23 cents per gallon on gasoline.
How the tax holiday would affect the status of the International Fuel Tax Agreement requirements for miles driven in Delaware is unclear.
To offset the lost revenue from the moratorium, HB421 would transfer $50 million from the state’s general fund to the Transportation Trust Fund. The fund mostly pays for construction and maintenance projects.
The bill is in the House Revenue and Finance Committee.
