4/17/06-A bill has died that would have restricted police from stopping certain trucks hauling live poultry on a hot day.
HB1180, sponsored by Rep. Carl Rogers, R-Gainesville, never came up for consideration before the full House.
The bill would have barred police from stopping trucks with a gross weight of at least 18,000 pounds carrying chickens when the temperature is above 85 degrees, unless the officer suspects illegal activity.
Even then, it limited the stops to 15 minutes unless an arrest is made. An earlier version limited stops to 10 minutes.
