5/23/06-A bill that would have created Iraqi Freedom license plates has died.
Sponsored by Senate Minority Leader Frank Watson, R-Greenville, SB2130 remained in the House Rules Committee when the session ended, effectively killing it for the year. The Senate already approved it.
A portion of the fee to obtain the commemorative plates would have been used for veterans’ assistance.
It would also have restricted the governor’s office from using the money generated from the plate sale for other uses.
The plate would have cost $40 to purchase and $27 for renewal. Twenty-five dollars of that amount would have been used for financial and education aid to children of veterans who died or were disabled while serving.
