5/22/06-Sen. Peter Roskam, R-Wheaton, has introduced a bill that would require 66 percent of any lease price for the Illinois Tollway to be used for projects or purposes that benefit counties along the toll route.
SB3186 would also prohibit campaign contributions by the private toll-road operator as well as exempt I-PASS holders from paying tolls on specific routes.
Another provision in the bill would require annual payments for road work and a lease deal as short as 20 years.
In addition, it would require the toll system to undergo annual DOT inspections. Public hearings also would be required in each county with an affected toll road.
The bill could come up for consideration during a legislative session this fall.
