OOIDA Information Update - Indiana Members
March 15, 2006

Shortly before midnight Tuesday, March 14, Indiana lawmakers gave final approval to Gov. Mitch Daniels' plan to lease the toll road to a foreign firm.

The vote in the House was extremely close at 51 for and 48 against. Unfortunately, we were only able to turn one yes vote to a no instead of the three we needed.

Lawmakers knew full well approving the measure was going against the views of the overwhelming majority of Indiana voters, but they did it anyway. Your efforts in contacting lawmakers were very much appreciated - and they were noticed, too, but it appears no amount of public pressure could have changed the outcome.

You might be happy to know that every member of the state House and half the state Senate will have another chance to hear from you soon. The elections are in November.
