2/3/06-A bill has died that sought to require a public question to be put on the November 2006 ballot asking voters whether they prefer the Eastern or Central time zone.
HB1014, sponsored by Rep. Dave Crooks, D-Washington, remained in the House Commerce, Economic Development and Small Business Committee Feb. 2, missing the deadline to advance from the full House.
The bill would have excluded those counties around Louisville and Cincinnati, which has observed Eastern Daylight Time illegally for the past 30 years.
The bill would have made the question binding, requiring the governor to petition the U.S. Department of Transportation on behalf of the state if a preference for Central is expressed.
