Indiana

3/23/06-A bill – SB17 – has died that would have allowed some of the state’s users of the Indiana Toll Road to claim limited income-tax credits. A similar provision, however, was included in a bill – HB1008 – that has been signed into law.

2/6/06-The Senate voted 45-5 Feb. 2 to advance a bill that would allow some of the state’s users of the Indiana Toll Road to claim limited income-tax credits.
SB17, sponsored by Sen. Joe Zakas, R-Granger, would authorize those who file an Indiana individual income tax return credits equal to half the amount of tolls paid, up to a maximum annual credit of $300. Toll Road users would have to incur at least $600 in annual tolls to claim the maximum credit.
However, an amendment added to the bill during debate on the Senate floor wiped out a provision that previously qualified certain Indiana truckers.
The change dropped language from the bill that allowed small business carriers who claim small business expenses on individual income tax credits to receive a tax break.
The bill now heads to the House for further consideration. For bill status, call (317) 232-9856.
