4/18/06-Gov. Ernie Fletcher has signed a bill that is intended to reduce gridlock caused by wrecks on Kentucky roads.
The “Quick Clearance” bill requires drivers to remove their vehicles from traffic lanes after minor wrecks.
The new law, previously SB44, mandates that drivers remove their vehicles from traffic lanes, as long as the vehicles are still drivable and no serious injuries were suffered. It also allows law enforcement at the scene to order vehicles to be towed to a parking area or safe place nearby.
The new rule takes effect in July.
3/28/06-The House unanimously approved a bill March 23 that would require drivers to remove their vehicles from traffic lanes after minor accidents.
Sponsored by Sen. Gary Tapp, R-Waddy, SB44 would mandate that drivers remove their vehicles from traffic lanes, as long as the vehicles are still drivable and no serious injuries were suffered. It also would allow law enforcement at the scene to order vehicles to be towed to a parking area or safe place nearby.
The “Quick Clearance” bill, which already passed the House, now heads to Gov. Ernie Fletcher’s desk.
