6/20/06-Gov. Kathleen Blanco has signed a bill into law honoring American soldiers with commemorative license plates.
The new law, previously HB1257, authorizes the creation of a prestige license tag for personal vehicles. The tag will include the likeness of a soldier and a child with the words “Support Our Troops” on it.
Tags will not be issued until at least 1,000 motorists sign up. The plates will cost an additional $25 annually on top of existing fees.
Revenue from the annual fee will go to the national group, Support Our Troops Inc., to help the families of service personnel called to active duty.

Sponsored by Rep. Steve Scalise, R-Jefferson, HB1257 now heads to Gov. Kathleen Blanco for her signature. The House already approved it.
