6/21/06-A bill died that would have boosted certain fees for cars and large trucks to cross the Greater New Orleans Mississippi River bridges on U.S. 90.
Sponsored by Rep. Roy Quezaire, D-Donaldsonville, HB415 remained in the House, Transportation, Highways and Public Works Committee when the session ended, effectively killing it for the year.
The bill would have increased from 20 cents an axle to 35 cents an axle what toll tag users pay to cross the Greater New Orleans bridges, known as the Crescent City Connection.
Most truck drivers with toll tags would have paid $1.75 – up from $1 – while truckers without tags would continue to pay $2.50 to cross the span. Cars with tags would have paid 70 cents to cross while non-tagged cars would still have paid $1.
The increase would have taken effect July 1, 2006, and run through Dec. 12, 2012.
