6/22/06-A bill that would have sent more money to the state’s roads and bridges has died.
Sponsored by Rep. Eddie Lambert, R-Prairieville, HB698 would have relied on the establishment of a Highway Improvement Program Fund and money from a variety of sources. The bill is companion to constitutional amendment HB697.
After the state’s rainy-day fund hits its cap, the bill would also have required 25 percent of the overflow into the highway fund.
The revenue would have been used to fund “maintenance and capacity improvements, including additional lanes and intersection improvements of roads and bridges of the state and federal highway systems,” Lambert wrote.
