7/12/06-Gov. Kathleen Blanco vetoed a bill Monday, July 10, that would have consolidated truck enforcement duties of the state.
HB971 would have given the Louisiana State Police the primary authority to enforce a new system for overseeing the trucks that travel roads in the state. Currently, the state’s Public Service Commission is in charge of the task.
Blanco said the state’s constitution gives the PSC authority over common carriers. The commission will be responsible for administering the new federal Unified Carrier Registration Agreement, which takes effect Jan. 1, 2007.
