1/8/07-Gov. Jennifer Granholm has signed a bill into law allowing automobile insurance companies to offer a premium discount to drivers who are 50 and older. The benefit would only apply to personal vehicles.
The new law, previously HB5661, would provide for the discount if a driver successfully completes a certified traffic accident prevent driver safety course. The safety discount would last for three years. To extend the discount, people would need to retake the course.

12/13/06-The House gave final approval to a bill Dec. 13 that would allow automobile insurance companies to offer a premium discount to drivers who are 50 and older. The benefit would only apply to personal vehicles.
Sponsored by Rep. Michael Nofs, R-Battle Creek, HB5661 would provide for the discount if a driver successfully completes a certified traffic accident prevent driver safety course.
The safety discount would last for three years. To extend the discount, people would need to retake the course. The bill now heads to Gov. Jennifer Granholm. The Senate endorsed the final version of the bill earlier this month.
