8/10/06-Gov. Jennifer Granholm has signed a bill into law lowering the state tax on each gallon of biodiesel fuel from 15 cents per gallon to 12 cents.
The new law, previously SB1074, also lowers ethanol-blended fuel to 12 cents, down from the 19 cents figured into a gallon of regular gas.
An annual determination of the difference between the amount of revenue collected under the new law and the amount that would have been collected under existing tax provisions is required. In addition, the Legislature is required to appropriate the amount of the differences to the Michigan Transportation Fund.

6/23/06-The House unanimously approved a bill June 21 that would lower the state tax on each gallon of biodiesel fuel from 15 cents per gallon to 12 cents.
Sponsored by Sen. Jud Gilbert, R-Algonac, SB1074 would require the Legislature to appropriate the amount of the difference to the Michigan Transportation Fund.
The bill would require an annual determination of the difference between the amount of revenue collected under the bill and the amount that would have been collected under existing tax provisions.
It also would lower ethanol-blended fuel to 12 cents, down from the 19 cents figured into a gallon of regular gas.
The bill has been sent back to Senate for final approval before heading to Gov. Jennifer Granholm’s desk. The bill is tie-barred with HB5755 – meaning one couldn’t take effect unless the other is enacted.
