12/18/06-Gov. Jennifer Granholm has signed legislation into law that prohibits new billboard permits.
The new law, previously SB567, also prohibits billboard companies from getting permits for new signs unless they gave up the permits for signs they already own.

12/6/06-The Senate unanimously approved a bill Wednesday, Dec. 6, that would place restrictions on billboards along state roads.
Part of a bill package, SB567, sponsored by Sen. Tom George, R-Texas Township, now heads to Gov. Jennifer Granholm’s desk. The House approved an amended version of the bill Tuesday, Dec. 5.
The bill would prohibit billboard companies from getting permits for new signs unless they gave up the permits for signs they already own.

12/5/06-The House overwhelmingly approved a bill that would place restrictions on billboards along state roads.
Part of a bill package, SB567, sponsored by Sen. Tom George, R-Texas Township, has been sent back to the Senate for approval of changes before heading to Gov. Jennifer Granholm’s desk.
The bill would prohibit billboard companies from getting permits for new signs unless they gave up the permits for signs they already own.

2/3/06-The Senate advanced legislation Jan. 31 that would ban all new billboards along state roads until 2009.
Part of a three-bill package, SB567, sponsored by Sen. Tom George, R-Texas Township, would bar the state from issuing new billboard permits unless the applicants give up billboard permits they already hold. In addition, a billboard advisory council would be set up and permit fees for billboard renewals would be increased.
