2/17/06-SB754, a bill intended to keep highway construction workers safe, has been combined with two other efforts.
The lead bill is SB872.
1/5/06-A bill in the Senate Transportation Committee is intended to help keep highway construction workers safe.
Under SB754, sponsored by Sen. Delbert Scott, R-Lowry City, anyone found speeding or passing illegally in a work zone when workers are present would face a $1,000 fine. Eight points would be added to a driver’s license.
If a worker is injured or killed, violators would face a fine up to $5,000 for injury or $10,000 if killed. Violators would have 12 points added to their license
The bill also specifies speeds are not to exceed the limit by 15 mph or more.
Existing state law fines violators $250 for speeding in work zones.
