5/19/06-A bill that would have banned large trucks from driving in the far left-hand lane on certain highways and interstates in the state has died.
SB758, sponsored by Sen. Kevin Engler, R-Farmington, remained in the Senate Transportation Committee when the session ended, effectively killing it for the year.
The bill would have kept large trucks to the right lanes of highways and interstates with three or more lanes in each direction.
Violators would have faced fines ranging from $200 to $300.
Trucks would have been permitted to merge left in certain situations, such as a vehicle entering the roadway.
