3/8/06-A bill has died that would have permitted police to pull over drivers in the state who are not buckled up.
HB360 remained in the House Transportation Committee at the deadline for House bills to advance to the full House.
A similar House bill – HB409 – however, was signed into law Feb. 7.

1/9/06-Rep. Rita Martinson, R-Madison, has introduced a bill that would permit police to pull over drivers in the state who are not buckled up.
Currently, police can issue seat-belt citations to drivers only after stopping a vehicle for another traffic violation, such as speeding.
Under HB360, violators could face a $50 fine. Existing state law calls for a $25 fine. No points would be assessed against a driver’s license.
The bill is in the House Transportation Committee. For bills status, call (601) 359-3719.
A similar bill – SB2086 – has passed the Senate and advanced to the House.
