6/22/06-A bill – HB1853 – in the House Finance Committee would cap the state’s per-gallon tax on diesel and gasoline so that the rate will not increase from the current level.
The state’s fuel tax is based on a flat tax and a variable tax that is adjusted twice annually based on the average wholesale prices. The tax increased 2.8 cents per gallon in January to 29.9 cents, which ranks among the highest in the nation.
For bill status, call (919) 733-7779 or (919) 733-7778.
An identical Senate bill – SB1447 – is in the Senate Finance Committee.
