7/31/06-A bill – HB2206 – that would have prohibited drivers under age 18 from talking on any cell phone while behind the wheel has died. However, a similar bill – SB1289 – has been sent to Gov. Mike Easley.
6/21/06-A bill in the House Judiciary Committee I drivers under age 18 would be prohibited from talking on any cell phone while behind the wheel. Violators would face a $25 fine and a six-month extension to their graduated license.
Under HB2206, young drivers would be allowed to call parents or make emergency phone calls.
