7/31/06-A bill has died that sought to repeal part of a 2005 law that requires vehicle owners to pay their property taxes and license renewal tags at the same time. It is scheduled to take effect in 2009.
The law requires the Division of Motor Vehicles and the North Carolina Department of Revenue to develop an integrated computer system so that vehicle property-tax bills and registration-renewal forms could be mailed out together.
HB2461 would have given vehicle purchasers a 90-day respite before the property tax is due.
