8/2/06-A bill has died that would have allowed law enforcement officers to snap photos of drivers who cannot produce identification to verify who they are.
HB2881 remained in the Senate Committee on Judiciary I when the session ended, effectively killing it for the year. The House previously approved it.
To keep track of who is who, photos would have been attached to court files with the driver’s violation, which could include an infraction for driving without a license. If the driver gives false information about their identity, the verification photo would have enabled the actual person to prove to a court that they weren’t behind the wheel when the infraction occurred.
