12/5/06-The Senate Transportation Committee has approved a bill that would reduce the severity of license suspensions for certain people.
Sponsored by Sen. Shirley Turner, D-Mercer, S2332 would allow judges to work out payment plans for motor vehicle fines and fees for drivers who can show they meet certain financial hardship criteria. It also would waive up to $200 of any non-DUI fine owed by such individuals and replace it with community service.
The bill now heads to the full Senate. If approved, it would move to the Assembly for further consideration.
