6/22/06-A bill that would have required all vehicles in the state to have ignition interlock devices installed has died.
Sponsored by Assemblyman Felix Ortiz, D-Brooklyn, A4400 remained in the Assembly Transportation Committee when the session ended, effectively killing it for the year.
The bill would have required the installation of the devices, which would prevent the vehicle from starting if the driver’s blood alcohol level is too high. The devices would have been required for all passenger vehicles sold or registered in the state by 2009.
