8/10/06-A new law, previously SB1748, allows consumers to place security “freezes” on their credit information.
3/20/06-The Senate unanimously approved a bill that would let consumers place security “freezes” on their credit information.
Once the freeze is in place, consumer reporting agencies would be required to notify consumers anytime a third party attempts to access credit reports.
Consumers would not be charged to have a freeze placed on their credit reports. Once consumers rescind the freeze, they would be required to pay up to $10 for a second and subsequent request.
SB1748, sponsored by Sen. Randy Bass, D-Lawton, also would prohibit the sale of private cell phone records.
The bill has been sent to the House for further consideration.
