11/30/06-A bill has died that sought to require a seller or lessor of a new personal motor vehicle sold or leased in the state, which is equipped with one or more recording devices commonly referred to as “event data recorders,” to disclose the fact in the owner’s manual for the vehicle.
Sponsored by Rep. Ted Harhai, D-Monessen, HB1294 remained in the Senate Transportation Committee when the session ended, effectively killing it for the year. The House previously approved it.
The bill required that a motor vehicle equipped with an event data recorder must describe what information can be recorded and that data collected “can be used as evidence in legal proceedings.”
