Call to Action

Pennsylvania

11/30/06-A bill has died that would have required automobile dealers to notify customers if a vehicle contains an event data recorder, or “black box.”
Sponsored by Sen. Roger Madigan, R-Bradford, SB1050 remained in the Senate Transportation Committee when the session ended, effectively killing it for the year.
The bill would have given the vehicle’s owner sole authority to release data collected.
A judge would have needed to issue a court order to overrule a driver’s refusal to release the data.
Information that could have been tapped includes the vehicle’s speed, direction of travel, location, steering performance, braking performance, and seat-belt status and accident information.
