7/10/06-A new law imposes $100 fines for teens chatting on the phone while driving and possible loss of driving privileges until age 18.
Previously S2451, it became law without Gov. Don Carcieri’s signature.

6/23/06-A bill awaiting Gov. Donald Carcieri’s signature would impose $100 fines for teens chatting on the phone while driving and possible loss of driving privileges until age 18.
S2451 is sponsored by Sen. Susan Sosnowski, D-South Kingstown. For bill status, call (401) 222-3580.

6/16/06-A bill awaiting consideration on the House floor is intended to cut cell phone use by young drivers in the state. The Senate already approved it.
Sponsored by Sen. Susan Sosnowski, D-South Kingstown, S2451 would forbid drivers under age 18 from talking on cell phones – even “hands-free” devices – while behind the wheel. It would exempt emergency phone calls.
The measure would impose $100 fines for teens chatting on the phone while driving and possible loss of driving privileges until age 18.
