OOIDA Call to Action - Texas members

Oct. 25, 2006

Texas lawmakers made a very big mistake when they overwhelmingly voted in 2003 to move forward with Gov. Rick Perry's plan for the Trans-Texas Corridor - they did it despite overwhelming public sentiment against the effort.

The corridor is an intermodal route that would cut across Texas from the Mexican border to Oklahoma and include toll lanes. The private team Cintra/Zachry is planning part of the project. Cintra is based in Spain and Zachry is based in San Antonio.

Lawmakers serve at the will of the people. If your calls and letters mean so little to them, it's time they find another line of work.

With Election Day right around the corner it's the perfect time to use your ballot to let your lawmakers know that you haven't forgotten their actions. All voters in the state need to use this opportunity to show lawmakers just how important it is that they pay attention to the opinions of those who elected them - or those who voted them out of office.

In an effort to assist OOIDA members to identify those legislators still in office who offered their support for the plan, we have included a list of those House and Senate lawmakers who are on the November ballot. (See list below.)

Because we cannot possibly reach out to all Texas voters about this issue, please share this information with friends, family and other truckers.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 7. If possible, you can vote early at locations throughout the state through Nov. 3. If you are not familiar with those locations, visit http://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/voter/earlyvote.shtml. Another option is to request that a ballot be mailed to you. For more information on voting by mail, visit http://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/voter/reqabbm.shtml. Voting by mail in Texas ends four days before Election Day.

The following is the list of the House and Senate members who voted in favor of the legislation that authorized the Trans-Texas Corridor and who are up for re-election.
