5/10/06-Gov. Tim Kaine signed a bill allowing a toll plaza to be placed on Interstate 95 at the border between Virginia and North Carolina.
Under SB614, sponsored by Sen. Frank Wagner, R-Virginia Beach, tolls for cars would be $5 with a higher fee for large trucks.
The North Carolina General Assembly also would have to approve the same measure. It would need final approval from Congress.

3/14/06-A bill headed to Gov. Tim Kaine would allow a toll plaza to be placed on Interstate 95 at the border between Virginia and North Carolina.
SB614, sponsored by Sen. Frank Wagner, R-Virginia Beach, could generate $50 million to $60 million annually for each state. Tolls for cars would be $5 with a higher fee for large trucks.
Dropped from the final version of the bill was a provision that included Interstate 85 for border tolls.
The North Carolina General Assembly also would have to approve the same measure. It would need final approval from Congress.

2/24/06-The House Rules Committee unanimously approved a bill Feb. 22 that would allow officials in Virginia and North Carolina to collect tolls from all drivers on Interstates 85 and 95 near the states’ common border south of Richmond, VA.
SB614, sponsored by Sen. Frank Wagner, R-Virginia Beach, would require revenue to be spent on work for the two interstates.
An authority made up of officials from both states would oversee the tolling operation.
If approved in both states, their transportation departments would study the toll proposal. It would need final approval from federal highway regulators.
The bill now heads to the full House.
