Wisconsin

5/9/06-AB786 has died. However, a similar effort – SB358 – has been sent to Gov. Jim Doyle.

5/1/06-The Assembly approved a bill April 28 that would go after fuel price gougers.
Sponsored by Reps. Josh Zepnick, D-Milwaukee, and Samantha Kerkman, R-Randall, AB786 would prohibit wholesalers and retailers from charging excessive prices for diesel and gasoline.
Wisconsin does not have an anti-gouging rule. However, there are laws to prevent multiple mark-ups in a 24-hour period.
The bill targets prices that grossly exceed the amount charged on motor fuels within a three week time period. It would give the Wisconsin attorney general authority to determine what is excessive pricing.
Anyone found in violation would face fines between $100 and $10,000, per occurrence.
The bill has been forwarded to the Senate for consideration.
For Assembly bill status, call (608) 266-2406. In Wisconsin, call 1-800-362-9472.
