3/1/07-The Senate Transportation Committee unanimously approved a bill that would convert the state's high-occupancy vehicles lanes to so-called FAST lanes, or freeway acceleration and sensible transportation lanes. Private groups also could propose constructing new lanes.
Sponsored by Sen. Pamela Gorman, R-Anthem, SB1635 would vary toll amounts with the amount of traffic congestion and time of day. Motorists driving alone would be exempt from paying to use FAST lanes during off-peak hours.
