6/26/07-The Senate voted 23-13 to approve a bill that would expand the authority of regional transportation agencies and the California Department of Transportation to establish and operate high-occupancy toll lanes and toll roads. It has moved to the Assembly.
Sponsored by Sen. George Runner, R-Antelope Valley, SB61 would eliminate the four-project limit to the number of lease agreements that Caltrans or an agency may sign with public and private entities for the construction of additional highway or rail projects designed to improve goods movement.
The bill also would remove the requirement that a proposed lease agreement be approved by the Legislature.
It is in the Assembly Transportation Committee. For bill status, call (916)651-4120.
